Derek Statham to present end-of-season awards

Old favourite pitchside before kick-off against Chelsea

OLD favourite Derek Statham will be making a rare return to The Hawthorns for the Chelsea game where he will present our end-of-season player awards before kick-off.

Statham, who has lived in Spain for the last 15 years, will be presenting our Players’ Player of the Season, Fans’ Player of the Season and Goal of the Season awards ahead of the clash with the Blues.

Fans have been voting in their thousands through the Club’s online and social media platforms over the last 10 days and tomorrow they will find out who has claimed the coveted prizes.

Statham, the much-loved full-back who was an award-winner himself during his playing days in the late 1970s and early 1980s, is looking forward to his return.

“I normally get over a little more frequently but this is my only visit this season and just so happens to be one in which there will be so much interest,” says Derek.

“Chelsea are deservedly the champions-elect but I can guarantee our boys will be determined to spoil the party.

“I’ve followed our progress and it seems to me we’ve had a really good season – we’re a solid team which is respected up and down the country and I am sure the Club will be looking to build on that for next season.

“I always love coming back to The Hawthorns and seeing some old faces. I’m not sure many will remember me these days but it will be an honour to present these awards.

“Who’s won them?”

Sorry Derek – you’ll have to wait like everyone else to discover the answer to that question.

It is intended that the awards will be made at the close of the players’ pre-match warm-up.
