Dawson on his new role

Baggies defender enjoying life at centre-half

AFTER injury to Jonny Evans, Albion defender Craig Dawson was tasked with filling the void left by the Northern Ireland international in the centre of defence.

Dawson has played the majority of his Albion career at right-back, but admitted he has been enjoying his football at centre-half in recent weeks.

"Hopefully I'll continue this run in the team in the centre.

"I'll always be happy to do a job for the team where I'm needed most.

"But obviously I enjoy playing in the centre - it's where I feel most comfortable.

"I need to keep learning and keep improving.

"Fingers crossed I can keep putting in good performances between now and the end of the season."

And Dawson was full of praise for both Evans, who made his return to action at the London Stadium, and Gareth McAuley after their late heroics.

"Jonny is a big team player and it was great to see him on the scoresheet.

"That said, I think Gareth's been given it.

"Gareth will claim for everything though so it's Jonny's goal as far as I'm concerned!"
