Yacob pens new Baggies contract

Yacob has made 129 appearances for the Baggies

ALBION midfielder Claudio Yacob has today signed a new-and-improved two-year contract.

The Argentinian was due to see his current deal expire at the end of this season but has now tied down his future at The Hawthorns until at least the summer of 2018, with the potential for a further 12-month option.

Yacob has to date made 129 appearances for the Baggies, 12 of which off the bench, and scored one goal.

"I'm pleased to sign a new deal with the Club," said the 29-year-old.

"It wasn't a difficult decision because everyone working at the Club, the fans and the players have all made me feel very comfortable since I've been here.

"Hopefully I can continue to play in the team. I'm happy."

Yacob joined Albion in July 2012 as a free agent after leaving Argentine Primera Division side Racing Club de Avellaneda.

He has become a firm fans' favourite during his four years at the Club, penning a two-year deal in the summer of 2015.

His solitary goal came in the 1-1 Premier League draw against Arsenal at The Hawthorns in October 2013.

Yacob has started all six league matches for the Baggies in 2016/17.

Albion Head Coach Tony Pulis said: "Claudio is a great professional and players like him are vital.

"I'm happy we've tied him down to a new deal."
