INTERNATIONALS: Albion quartet in World Cup qualifiers

Scotland and Northern Ireland both off to positive starts

ALBION captain Darren Fletcher skippered Scotland to an impressive 5-1 victory over Malta on Sunday.

The midfielder completed 90 minutes as Scotland got their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a flying start in Group F.

James Morrison was an unused substitute at the Ta' Qali national stadium. The Scots face Lithuania in their next qualifier at Hampden Park on October 8.

Baggies team-mates Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley helped Northern Ireland to a goalless draw against the Czech Republic in Prague on Sunday.

Evans, who was voted man of the match, put in a commanding display alongside defensive partner McAuley as the pair both completed 90 minutes in their World Cup qualifying Group C opener.

It was Northern Ireland's first match since their successful Euro 2016 campaign, where they reached the round of 16 in France.

Michael O'Neill's side face San Marino next up at Windsor Park on October 8.
