Rondon and Gamboa set for Copa America

Duo preparing for tournament in the United States

EYES very quickly turned towards the forthcoming UEFA Euro 2016 tournament in France following the conclusion of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season.

The Baggies are set to be represented at the finals by Northern Ireland duo Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley, Republic of Ireland winger James McClean and Wales defender James Chester.

Excitement is building ahead of the opening game between France and Romania on Friday, June 10, but another international competition equally as prestigious as the European Championships will come around even sooner.

The Copa America gets underway on Saturday, June 4 with hosts USA facing Colombia in Santa Clara at 2.30am.

Albion will have two representatives at the tournament, which will be called the Copa America Centenario to mark 100 years of the competition.

Salomon Rondon’s Venezuela are in Group C alongside Mexico, Uruguay and Jamaica, while Cristian Gamboa’s Costa Rica have been drawn against the host nation USA, as well as Colombia and Paraguay in Group A.

Venezuela face Jamaica in Chicago on Sunday, June 5 (ko 10pm), Uruguay in Philadelphia on Friday, June 10 (ko 12.30am), before finishing the group with a clash against Mexico in Houston on Tuesday, June 14 (ko 1am).

Costa Rica, meanwhile, come up against Paraguay on Saturday, June 4 in Orlando (ko 10pm), USA on Wednesday, June 8 in Chicago (ko 1am) before rounding off their Group A campaign with a match against Colombia in Houston on Sunday, June 12 (ko 2am).

This summer’s Copa America will feature 16 teams for the first time in its history, with four groups of four teams. The top two in each group will progress to the quarter-finals.
