Under-21s set for derby clash with Wolves

Shan wants side to maintain play-off push

ALBION’s Under-21 side are in action at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night against local rivals Wolves (ko 7pm).

The Baggies head into the derby clash occupying fifth place in the Barclays U21 Premier League Division Two table, with their opponents sitting second bottom.

The youngsters are vying for a spot in the play-offs at the end of the season with promotion to the top division the target for James Shan’s side.

Albion last recorded a league victory in December and have slipped out of the running for automatic promotion.

Under-21 boss Shan has stressed the importance of getting back to winning ways, with several teams challenging for one of the four play-off positions.

He said: “We have spoken before about how crucial it is to start winning games again with just five matches left to play this season.

“It’s disappointing to have dropped to our lowest position in the table that we have been all year.

“We need the victory to maintain our play-off challenge and push for promotion.

“You would think that looking at this one as a derby game, it would have that extra spice to it especially with it being such an important one for us.

“We drew 0-0 at Molineux earlier in the season and the game didn’t really have that added spice, it was just a good game of football.

“From our point of view this is just another game and another opportunity to strengthen our position in the play-offs.

“Wolves have released a few players from their Under-21 squad so we will have to wait and see what sort of side they will bring.”

Admission is FREE for season ticket holders, otherwise prices are £5 adults and £1 concessions.
