INTERNATIONALS: McClean and Gamboa in action

Costa Rica remain top while Ireland claim friendly win

ALBION duo James McClean and Cristian Gamboa were in action for their countries last night.

McClean came on as an 84th minute substitute for Shane Long in the Republic of Ireland's 1-0 friendly win against Switzerland. Ciaran Clark scored the only goal after just three minutes.

Gamboa, meanwhile, had slightly more pressing issues for Costa Rica, with a World Cup qualifier in Jamaica - the first of a double header.

Oscar Ramírez's side fell behind to a first-half goal, but mounted a second half revival, equalising through Jhonny Acosta in the 66th minute.

That result keeps Costa Rica top of the four-team CONCACAF group B on seven points, three ahead of Panama and Jamaica.

The return fixture against Jamaica will be played this Tuesday.
