Baggies drawn in Group H of the southern section

ALBION’s academy side will face Millwall, Luton Town and Gillingham in the first round of the revamped EFL Trophy.

The Baggies youngsters have been drawn alongside their three Football League opponents in Group H of the southern section of the draw.

Clubs will play each other once in the group with fixtures scheduled for the w/c 29th August, 3rd October and 7th November.

Academy teams must field six players under the age of 21 in their starting line-ups.

The top two teams in each group will go into a knockout stage that will culminate in a showpiece final at Wembley on Sunday, April 2, 2017.

The new-look competition, previously known as the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, will also have an enhanced prize fund with nearly £2m up for grabs, including £10,000 per win and £5,000 per draw during the group stage and £100,000 for the eventual winner.

Specific fixture dates and kick-off times will be announced at a later time.
