Albion U14s celebrate Cup win

Morgan Rogers named player of the tournament as U14s triumph

ALBION U14s are toasting success after winning the Riga City Cup.

The Baggies were one of 10 sides competing against sides from Estonia, Russia, Lithuania and Latvia over the weekend (Hannover 96, from Germany, also participated, albeit in another group).

And the boys, led by coaches Paul Gardner and Adam Blount, did brilliantly, winning five of their six games en route to success.

Albion played JK Kalev of Estonia in their first game, winning 2-0 with goals from Jovan Malcolm and Finley Thorndike, before claiming the same scoreline against Latvian side Sitika FS (goals from Jovan Malcolm and Ben Cassidy) in their second game.

A set-back against Lithuanian side Zalgirietis (0-1) was the only goal they conceded in the group stages, which were completed with a comprehensive 3-0 victory against SG Siauliai FA (Morgan Rogers, Harry Williams and Jovan Malcolm).

Russian side Master Saturn were seen off 3-0 in the semi-finals (Finley Thorndike, Morgan Rogers and Jovan Malcolm) before getting revenge over Zalgirietis with a 2-1 victory in the Final - both goals coming from Morgan Rogers, who was later named as the Player of the Tournament.

Mark Harrison, Academy Manager, said: "The boys have had exposure to playing against teams from different countries and of different football philosophies.

"It's great for everyone who works at the football club to see young players win tournaments and some reward for the investment the club are putting into the Academy.

"The boys should be very pleased with their success."
