VACANCY: Head of Coach Development

Hours: Minimum of 162.5 hours per calendar month

West Bromwich Albion FC are looking to appoint a Head of Coaching Development to manage the role of developing their Academy Coaches in line with their coaching philosophy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the coaches Individual Development Plans which are integrated with the Academy Coach Competency Framework. They will provide regular feedback to coaches to aid their development and ensure their Individual Development Plans are reviewed every 12 weeks. They will be responsible for the CPD programme for the coaches and ensure they have the relevant qualifications for their role.

They will work with other Senior Academy Management staff to ensure the Academy Coaching and Playing Philosophy is consistently delivered. They will play an integral part in the development of the Coaching and Playing Philosophy and will be expected to develop close working relationships with the Academy Manager and Technical Director for this purpose. They will be a member of the Club’s Technical Board and will be expected to provide information related to the Academy’s playing and coaching philosophy. They will be responsible for ensuring the Academy Coaching Programme is being followed and reflects the needs of the players in each phase. It will also be important that they ensure the other disciplines are integrated effectively into the coaching programme.

They will monitor and review the Phase Specific Performance Targets of the Coaching Departments as well as the Performance Targets for the Lead and Assistant Lead Phase Coaches. They will ensure coaches manage the PMA effectively, providing all relevant information related to the Coaching Programme. They will be responsible for monitoring and providing feedback to coaches in relation to the delivery of our Match Day Philosophy.

Internally they will need to be able to develop effective working relationships with the Academy coaches, Academy Manager and Technical Director as well as the Multi-Disciplinary team. They will also need to develop relationships with Parents and Players and ensure they are very approachable. Externally their relationship with FA and Premier League staff, and in particular the FAYCE and PLCSM, will be important to ensure their role within the Academy continues to evolve. They will need to be committed to the ECAS and the Head of Coaching development programmes. They will be expected to continually research developments in coaching methods, as well as researching trends emerging in the modern game at Premier League level.

In conjunction with the Academy Manager they will be responsible for the succession planning of coaches and play an integral role in the recruitment of new coaches into the Academy. They will design a coaching pathway journey for each coach based on their qualifications, skills and experiences.

The role will be primarily based at our Academy Building, Halfords Lane, West Bromwich but there will also be a need to spend time with the PDP at the first team training ground in Great Barr, Walsall.

You will be expected to provide support and assistance when necessary to other departments in the Academy, having a dedicated and flexible approach is also a requirement of the role.

The successful candidate will be expected to devote themselves to their continuous professional development, which will be delivered internally and also provided externally by the FA, Premier League and other relevant training bodies.

Applicants will be subject to meeting all requirements of our Children’s Safeguarding Policy and a Criminal Records Bureau Check. They must also hold a valid driving licence.

First Aid for Sport Qualification

Experience of mentoring and developing coaches
Experience of working within Academy Football for 10 years
Computer Literacy
Valid Driving Licence
Excellent Communication, Organisation and Management skills and understanding of EPPP Requirements
