Shan looks ahead to Premier League 2 opener

Baggies face trip to Swansea

ALBION’s Under-23 side kick-off their Premier League 2 campaign against Swansea City at their training ground on Monday night (ko 7pm).

The Baggies will travel to south Wales on the opening day for the second season in a row having claimed a 2-1 win at the Liberty Stadium last August.

After completing six weeks of pre-season training and a number of friendlies boss James Shan admits he will be glad to see the action start for real.

He said: “I am excited for the start of the season on Monday night.

“I’m glad that pre-season is over and we can slot into a normal routine again.

“Hopefully we can get off to a good start just as we did last season when we won our first few games.

“A victory in the opening game would boost our confidence and would also set us up nicely for the next few matches.

“The big thing for me is the boys’ performance.

“There will be a couple in the squad who could potentially earn themselves a loan move so it’s an opportunity to show that they can perform well in a team.”

Shan added: “Swansea will have a clear way of playing and they will be a team who will want to dominate possession.

“I’d expect them to have some clever rotation patterns and offensively they will be very bright.

“It’s a tough opening test for us.”
