One month countdown until Kenya

Albion Foundation set for week of voluntary community work

The Albion Foundation, in partnership with African Adventures, is preparing to travel to Nakuru, Kenya in what will be their first visit to the region.

A group of 21 supporters and Foundation staff members will make the journey in under a month’s time.

They will partake in seven days of voluntary community work including football coaching, school teaching and building work.

The trip will support the African Adventures’ annual Community Development Pledge, which supports and invests in the projects and areas the volunteers will visit.

At the same time, funds will be raised to support the work of The Albion Foundation, meaning the trip will have a long-lasting effect in both the UK and Africa.

The group will also experience an incredible Rift Valley adventure along with a three-part activity day comprising of a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru Safari Park, a stop off at the Earth’s equator and an adventure trail at Thomson Falls near Nyahururu.

In order to take part in this incredible opportunity each individual was asked to raise approximately £2,250.

The Foundation helped organise several events to raise awareness of the trip and assist the group in raising the required amount - these included a charity race night held at The Hawthorns and a fans' forum in Worcester featuring Albion players Chris Brunt and Boaz Myhill.

Baggies supporter Peter Dickens said: “When I found out that 60% of the population in Kenya live off less than 60p per day I thought ‘I can make a difference!’.

“We are delighted to be involved with African Adventures. The trip will not only make a massive difference to the local community in Kenya but will also have a huge impact on the local community in the West Midlands.”

Albion Foundation business development manager Jon Ross added:  “I think I am not alone in saying that we can’t wait for the trip.”

In-country director Alex Maina said: “Everyone is so happy to welcome The Albion Foundation to Nakuru in May.

“The children cannot wait! My team looks forward to meeting them all.”
