Gera major doubt for finale

Plus injury update on Mel's squad ahead of Stoke clash

ZOLTAN Gera is a major doubt for Sunday’s final game of the season against Stoke (ko 3pm).

The 35-year-old Hungary international, whose current contract runs out at the end of the campaign, has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury after coming on as a substitute at Norwich almost five weeks ago.

“Zoltan Gera has not trained with the team since his injury, so it really is very difficult, almost impossible that he’ll play,” said Pepe Mel.

Steven Reid is also a doubt for The Hawthorns encounter after being forced off due to a niggling groin problem at half-time of last night’s game at Sunderland.

Jonas Olsson was not risked in the Stadium of Light encounter – but was on the bench.

While the Baggies kept Billy Jones sidelined for a second successive game as a precaution after he only recently returned from a hamstring injury.

“Jones didn’t make the trip and Olsson, we’re saving him because there was a great risk he wouldn’t be able to play against Stoke City,” added Mel.

Thievy (groin) missed his second successive game, while Morgan Amalfitano was rested as Albion played the second of three games in a week.
