Injury headache as McAuley named captain

Mel pondering options with Olsson also suspended (FREE VIDEO)

PEPE Mel has named Gareth McAuley as captain for Saturday’s trip to Hull (ko 3pm).

The Baggies boss is without his usual skipper Chris Brunt (knee) through injury and vice-captain Jonas Olsson, as he begins a two-game ban for picking up ten yellow cards this season.

Mel has also been forced to again rule out Morgan Amalfitano (knee) after he missed last Saturday’s 2-1 win at Swansea.

While Diego Lugano (knee) Billy Jones and Claudio Yacob (both hamstring) remain sidelined and will sit out the KC Stadium encounter.

Liam O’Neil and Donervorn Daniels are set to be in the travelling squad for the second successive week.

“I need defenders because I only have four with Reid, Ridgewell, McAuley and Dawson,” said Mel.

“It is possible Daniels but tomorrow is the last training session, which is important.

“It is not possible for Billy Jones, Amalfitano neither because yesterday he didn’t train or today – it’s difficult.”
