Baggies boss overwhelmed by supporters
PEPE Mel is determined to deliver Barclays Premier League survival to the Albion fans after being overcome with emotion by their support at last weekend’s game at Swansea.
A travelling army of 2,000 travelled to the Liberty Stadium bearing Spain flags as a tribute to the Madrid-born head coach.
He rewarded them with the first win of his Hawthorns reign and at the final whistle in South Wales strode onto the pitch to join in their celebrations.
Mel heads to Hull today (ko 3pm) – backed by another bumper following – aiming for another three points towards fulfilling his pledge to preserve the Baggies’ top-flight status.
“I’ve had eight matches here and only one win but the fans have always been very kind with me - it’s incredible,” he said
“West Brom is a family; we are altogether with staff, fans and players.
“Yes I did become very emotional at Swansea.
“I’ve only been here two months in a different country, with a different language, and the people have shown me great amounts of kindness already – I owe them a lot.
“I owe the fans the right to be in the Premier League – I feel I owe them that.”
