Irvine provides Kelly insight

And new boss gives his thoughts on Downing and Kiely

ALAN Irvine has given an insight into what Rob Kelly will add to the Albion coaching set-up.

The Birmingham-born coach has been drafted in as Joint-Assistant Head Coach alongside Keith Downing, while Dean Kiely will remain as Goalkeeping Coach.

Kelly worked as assistant manager to Irvine at both Preston and Sheffield Wednesday.

He managed Leicester City and, more recently, was first-team coach at Nottingham Forest.

“Keith and Dean’s reputations go before them,” said Irvine.

“They are highly regarded at the Club and have enjoyed good times at Albion.

“I’m looking forward to working with them.

“Rob is a very good coach, he has a great personality and builds good relationships with players.

“We worked together at Preston and Sheffield Wednesday.

“He knows the way I work and what areas he needs to assist me.

“He’s got an opinion about the way the game should be played and how it should be coached – and that’s really important.

“I don’t want people who just say ‘yes’ all the time.

“I need people who will tell me what they think and then ultimately the decision is mine.”
