Mel talks transfers

Boss gives his thoughts on forward search and Baggies trio

PEPE Mel has given his squad the thumbs up as he revealed the type of forward he would like to add to his ranks before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday.

The Baggies boss was speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Villa (ko 7.45pm).

And he also explained the situation surrounding Markus Rosenberg, Craig Dawson and Graham Dorrans following media speculation about their Albion futures.

“I’m very happy with the West Bromwich Albion squad and think we have got enough to compete and go on and have a good season,” said Mel.

“The club is working very hard to bring someone in.

“We need someone who is a mobile player and is able to drop in behind.”

Rosenberg looks set to leave, while the new head coach has not ruled out Dawson going on loan and says Dorrans could still play a part for the Baggies this term.

“All of the clubs in the Championship want Craig Dawson,” added Mel.

“I think he is an exceptional centre-back, he’s a young player, and he really is the future of West Bromwich Albion.

“Whether he goes out on loan is something I need to talk about with him.

“The advantage of the system here in England is you could loan him out for one month and he can gain game time, and he would be able to compete, which is really important.

“It is really very likely Rosenberg will leave; he is somebody who wants to leave and have game time elsewhere.

“It is very possible and there are clubs interested in him.

“As for Dorrans; he is a player who could be very useful to us in the future and someone we could use."
