Academy offering second chance trials to boys born from May to August
ALBION’S Academy is searching for promising young footballers who were born late in the school year.
Many children born in May, June, July or August, are overlooked when they are compared to older and stronger players in their year group.
The club are holding open training sessions during February half-term (Monday 17 to Friday 21) aimed at boys in this category, in an effort to unearth talented footballers who have previously been overlooked by scouts.
“Everything will be free, fun and without pressure, so the boys have everything to gain and nothing to lose,” said the Baggies’ Head of Academy Recruitment, Steve Hopcroft.
“It may be the first time the boys have trained and played with players of a similar age.
“This is a unique project and our research shows there is a clear bias towards recruiting players born in the first half of the academic year.
“Hopefully we can find some young talented players who have previously been overlooked.”
