Jones double eases Baggies into BSC semis

TWO-GOAL Alex Jones steered David Oldfield’s young side into the Birmingham Senior Cup semi-finals.

The Baggies, unchanged from Thursday’s Barclays Under-21 Premier League win at Norwich, broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Jones converted the rebound after Joe Ward's shot had been saved.

The forward doubled his and Albion’s tally in the last-eight tie against the Calor League Premier Division side when he raced onto a 76th-minute through-ball and slotted home.

Ben Billingham gave the Glassboys late hope by pulling one back two minutes from time – but the visitors weren’t to be denied.

Senior professional development coach Oldfield said: "The lads played well and it was good to get a result in a difficult game.

"We were competitive and passed the ball well.

"Stourbridge are a decent side - they're a club that is going places - and it was good to see our former player Kayelden Brown."

ALBION: Rose, Donnellan, Francis, O'Neil, Howkins, C Jones, Ward, Birch, A Jones (Wedderburn), O'Sullivan, S Nabi (Wright). Subs not used: Palmer (gk), Pace, Cleet.
