We take a look at the figures from Chelsea draw
ANOTHER home 1-1 draw for Pepe Mel against a top side in the Barclays Premier League, and here the guys over at football stats website WhoScored.com take a look back over the latest of those.
Table-topping Chelsea were the visitors to The Hawthorns on Tuesday and the Baggies were more than a match for their opponents once again, coming away with another score draw.
It was the new head coach’s third game on home soil, with each of those games coming against sides currently in the top six of England's first tier.
Albion have held their own on each occasion, though, going behind to a first-half strike but remaining confident and pushing to get back into the game rather than rolling over.
In the latest game it was again Victor Anichebe that scored the leveller, heading in after coming off the bench to earn the Baggies another precious point.
No player in the Barclays Premier League has scored more goals as a substitute this season than the Baggies forward (3).
What is more, of players with more than five appearances from the bench this season, Anichebe has the best minutes per goal rate as a sub.
As WhoScored.com's statistically calculated match report states, Albion 'created a high number of chances relative to their possession', which is exactly what you need to do against the best teams in the country, and Mel looks to have got his tactics right yet again this time out.
Albion allowed their opponents the ball but did not allow their opponents opportunities to shoot as often as they might have liked.
The Blues were forced into shooting from distance most of the time in open play, with 67% of their attempts coming from outside the box, while their goal came from a corner.
In comparison, only 17% of Albion's shots were taken from outside the box as they scythed through their title-challenging opponents with relative ease.
Although away results arguably need to improve for the Baggies, both the performances and results at home, against some of the best teams this league has to offer, certainly give rise to the argument it is only a matter of time before Mel's team work their way out of their current predicament.
