Gera targets consistent performances

Experienced midfielder aiming to produce the goods week in, week out

ZOLTAN Gera admits he is not yet back to his best and hopes more consistent performances can help Albion secure Barclays Premier League safety this season.

The Hungary international returned from a long-term knee injury in November and is set to take on former club Fulham at The Hawthorns this afternoon (ko 3pm).

Gera, who has made ten appearances in all competitions for the Baggies this season, says he is not suffering any after-effects of his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament problem.

"I am fully fit now and I don't feel any problems," he said.

"I'm no longer worried by the injury I had and my fitness levels are as good as they need to be.

"Physically, I am fine - but I still need to find my best form.

"I think over the last four or five games I have had a good game and then one that wasn't so good.

"I need to keep the levels high and then stay at that level.

"I need to find my form week in, week out.

"This is a really important period.

"We are in a dangerous position and we have to play well.

"We know we need wins and I must find my best form week in, week out.

"We have spoken about what we need to do as a squad and we feel we need to win another four matches at least.

"We know we are good enough because we have shown that over the last few years.

"But we have to prove it.”

Gera admits he has been advised not to perform his trademark somersault celebration should he score between now and the end of the season.

But he fears his instincts may get the better of him if he grabs a dramatic goal!

"The doc and the physio said I can't do it but if I score in a really important game I think I will forget everything!," he quipped.

"I will do it as it will be instinctive.

"But, of course, the main thing is that we win games.”
