Samir Nabi strike sinks Saints

Aaron Danks delighted with 1-0 win

A moment of magic from Samir Nabi earned Albion Under-18s a 1-0 win at Southampton on Friday, in the Barclays U18 Premier League.

Both sides had chances in an evenly contested first-half, but neither could capitalise and take the lead.

However the deadlock was broken in the 55th minute, Samir Nabi danced through Saints’ defence and fired home from just outside the six-yard box, to hand Aaron Danks’ men all three points.

It was a result that delighted Albion’s Under-18s coach.

“It was a very good performance from the boys and it is great to get the win,” said Danks.

“Both teams fielded players who have been regulars in the Under-21 teams this year, so the two teams were strong.

“Southampton probably edged the first-half in terms of possession although we felt as though our shape controlled the game.

“However in the second-half we were excellent and played some really good football and made some good chances.

“In the end it was a bit of magic from Samir Nabi which won us the game.”
