Midfielder wins WBADSC Player of the Year honour
YOUSSOUF Mulumbu was today named the West Bromwich Albion Disabled Supporters’ Club’s Player of the Year.
The Baggies midfielder received his award as the club laid on the 12th annual open day for the WBADSC.
Only last year’s winner Gareth McAuley, who finished second in the voting with Billy Jones third, has made more Barclays Premier League starts for Albion this term - and Mulumbu last month scored a vital last-gasp winner at Swansea.
He said: “This is the second time I have won this particular award and it is always a pleasure to have a trophy.
“I’ve done some good stuff this season but I must keep going because the supporters deserve to see Premier League football again next season.
“This award will go alongside my other trophies in my place in Paris, and I hope there are more to come in the future.”
In keeping with tradition, Pepe Mel switched training to The Hawthorns to enable around 70 WBADSC members, plus 30 representatives from Sporting Club Albion’s disability section, to watch a full session from the East
Stand's disabled facilities.
The supporters were treated to a meal in the Richardson Suite before meeting the coaching staff and first-team squad, who signed autographs and posed for photos.
WBADSC chairman Kevin Candon said: “Yet again the club have done us proud.
“It’s always great to watch the players train, meet them and get their autographs.
“It’s just a really good day for everyone involved and more and more people are joining the Disabled Supporters’ Club, which is what we need.
“Youssouf is always outstanding. He always gives 100 per cent and the fans love the way he is, which is why he’s won our award.”
