Veteran insists Albion must take positives
STEVEN Reid was naturally disappointed after seeing Albion let a three-goal lead slip at home to Tottenham but insists: “It’s another point closer to safety.”
The Baggies were firmly in control in the first half an hour of the encounter but Spurs dragged themselves back into proceedings before snatching an unlikely point in the fourth minute of injury time.
It is the second successive home match in which Albion have let slip of a commanding position and conceded late on, but right-back Reid insists his despair is not at the same level as that which he felt post-Cardiff.
“It’s becoming a bit of a habit, it’s happened three or four times this season already,” he said.
“But going into the game, if we were honest with ourselves, then a point would have been a good result.
“The feeling I’ve got personally is nowhere near the feeling I had after Cardiff.
“We’ve gone 3-0 up, yes, and we should have held on and won the game.
“But we’ve just got to stay as positive as possible and look upon it as a good point. It’s another point closer to safety.
“We’re on a decent run at the minute, there’s a few teams around the bottom struggling for form and we’re one of those in good form.
“It’s another point, even though it should have been a win, and we look forward to a nice easy one at Manchester City on Easter Monday.”
Matej Vydra, Chris Brunt and Stephane Sessegnon were all on target for Albion before Jonas Olsson’s own goal ensured Spurs had a lifeline, coming after Ben Foster had saved Emmanuel Adebayor’s weak penalty.
Harry Kane’s header, which evaded a scrambling Reid on the goal-line, handed the visitors further momentum and Christian Eriksen was on hand to curl home late into six minutes of time added on.
“It was obviously a deflated dressing room, we were 3-0 up and comfortable. If anything we could have gone on and nicked a fourth,” Reid said.
“It was a fortunate first goal for them, it comes off Jonas Olsson and goes into the net – that’s how our season has gone - it could have gone wide or into Ben’s arms but it’s gone in.
“Maybe in the second half we didn’t create as much as we would have liked but sometimes that happens when you’re in that sort of position.
“It’s a deflated dressing room but, as I say, we’ve just got to take the positives.”
