GARETH McAuley’s second goal in as many games proved in vain as Northern Ireland suffered a last-gasp 3-2 World Cup qualifying defeat by Luxembourg last night.

The Baggies defender headed home in the 82nd minute to make it 2-2 but the hosts snatched a winner three minutes from time.

Chris Brunt was suspended for the Group F clash.

Boaz Myhill played 90 minutes as Wales lost 3-0 to Serbia in their Group A encounter at Cardiff City Stadium.

Shane Long got 81 minutes under his belt in Wien as Republic of Ireland were beaten 1-0 by Austria in Group C.

In the same group Jonas Olsson watched from the bench as Sweden beat Kazakhstan 1-0 to move three points clear in second place, with two games remaining.

Diego Lugano was suspended for Uruguay’s 2-0 victory over Colombia in their South America World Cup qualifier.
