Albion News celebrates Bomber's 50th

Club mark anniversary of Tony Brown's debut

WE approach one of the great anniversaries in our Club’s golden history and so, in honour of the Golden Jubilee of Mr. Albion, this Saturday’s matchday programme, Albion News, has gone Bombertastic.

Tony Brown made his Albion debut at Ipswich Town on September 28, 1963, so to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the start of the greatest Albion career of them all, we have produced a very special collector’s edition of Albion News that is dedicated to the great man.

We have an interview with Tony himself, delving back into the early days of his career, looking back at how and why he chose to come to The Hawthorns.

We have invited some of his friends and colleagues to give us their thoughts on sharing a dressing room with Bomber, including Graham Williams, John Kaye, Cyrille Regis and plenty of others.

Our love letter to supporting the club, “A Love Supreme”, takes us back to the sun kissed boulevards of West Bromwich in May 1968 as the Throstles brought the FA Cup home and “Birth of the Cool” focuses on that all-conquering season of 1967/68.

Elsewhere, “Rhapsody in Blue & White” gives you the lowdown on the Football League Cup Final of 1966 when Tony won his first ever prize with Albion.

Not that we are neglecting present day matters of course.

Steve Clarke writes his exclusive column for Albion News and man-of-the-match Chris Brunt reflects on the draw at Craven Cottage, also featured in an extensive match report.

Paolo di Canio’s Sunderland are featured in depth, as are a couple of past encounters between the clubs, seen through the eyes of the match programmes of the day – word of warning, don’t let Kevin Kilbane see it.

All this and plenty more in our special Tony Brown issue of Albion News.
