Bomber's at seven
YESTERDAY we named Joe Carter eighth in our list of Albion’s all-time top ten greatest goalscorers.
At seven we have Tony Brown – who scored 218 goals in 574 appearances for Albion between 1961-81.
The holder of almost every goalscoring and appearance record at the Albion, Bomber got his career off to the perfect start with a goal on his debut, away at Ipswich Town on 28th September 1963.
In the years that followed, he became the first man to score in every round of the Football League Cup as the Throstles claimed the trophy in 1965-66 and, after Albion qualified for the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup the
following season, he scored the club’s first hat-trick in European competition in a 5-2 home win over DOS Utrecht.
He was in the Albion side that won the FA Cup in 1968, scoring four times in the cup run, and collected League Cup runners-up honours in 1967 and 1970.
He topped the First Division scoring charts in 1970/71 with 28 goals and won his only England cap at the end of that season, in a 0-0 draw with Wales at Wembley.
He was named the Midlands Footballer of the Year on three occasions, in 1968/69, 1970/71 and 1978/79.
