Preston Ladies 4 Albion Ladies 1

Three game unbeaten run ends in Lancashire

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies suffered their first defeat in four matches with a 4-1 loss at Preston North End on Sunday.

The Baggies have only picked up one point on the road this season and Sunday’s loss leaves them in sixth place in the FA Women’s Premier League (Northern Division).

Albion took the lead after 21 minutes through forward Ellie Gerhold but the home side equalised immediately and the game was level at the interval.

Three second half goals from Preston saw them complete an impressive victory and Baggies boss Dave Lawrence believes his side need to be more clinical with their finishing if they are to pick up points on the road.

“Before the game we were in good spirits, we had a couple of good training sessions and showed great professionalism with last week’s win over Kingshurst,” said Lawrence.

“We scored a really well worked goal but they replied instantly and I think that set the tone for the afternoon.

“They scored goals at crucial times and after we went 3-1 down we just looked deflated.

“At 1-1 we created some great chances and if we would have taken one of them then maybe things would have been different.”
