Foster pays tribute to Rom

Keeper hails striker for changing game against United

BEN Foster has paid tribute to hat-trick hero Romelu Lukaku for helping fire Albion to their most successful Barclays Premier League campaign.

The on-loan Chelsea striker smashed a second-half treble and scored two of the three Baggies goals in the final nine minutes that saw them pull-off a historic 5-5 draw with champions Manchester United.

Lukaku took his season’s tally to 17 – lifting him to sixth in the top-flight scoring chart, only behind Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, Christian Benteke and Michu, as the Baggies finished eighth.

“It was amazing wasn’t it,” said Foster.

“At 3-0 I hoped that it didn’t turn into a bloodbath. They were on fire, they were taking the mick out of us.

“It was incredible.

“We kept going and got the goal that we needed just before half-time and then got a second to make it 3-2 which made it interesting.

“To be fair they went and pulled away again and the thoughts in my mind were please don’t let it turn into a bloodbath again.

“But Rom has come on and changed it. Fair play to him.

“He was unplayable.

"As soon as he came on you could see that they were physically scared of him.

“He dominated everything that came his way.

“We can’t complain, he scored a hat-trick and we drew the game 5-5 - it was a fitting send off for him.

“He’s done so much for us and I’m really happy for him because he’s such a nice lad.”
