Ladies return to league action

Baggies prepare for first league fixture of 2013

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies will be looking to bounce back from cup heartbreak when they return to FA Women’s Premier League (northern division) action at table-topping Sheffield on Sunday (ko 2pm).

The Baggies bowed out of the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat by National League champions Sunderland at The Grove, Halesowen.

But Dave Lawrence’s outfit are now preparing for their first league game since October after seven cup fixtures in three separate competitions.

Albion were beaten 4-2 by Sheffield in their opening fixture of the campaign and the ladies’ gaffer hopes his side are able to overcome the unbeaten Yorkshire outfit.

“Sheffield will be a tough opposition for us this week,” said Lawrence.

“They’re unbeaten in the league and going well in a couple of cup competitions, but our recent run of form and results have ensured morale is high and we will be approaching this in good spirits.”

“We now need a top-three finish in order to have achieved all our goals.

“This means a very strong end to the season is needed, but we have the quality and size of squad now to compete for this target.”
