Fortune joins Wigan

Striker signs two-year deal with Championship outfit

MARC-ANTOINE Fortune has today joined Championship outfit Wigan on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old striker was released by the Baggies at the end of last season - and became a free agent from July 1.

Albion Sporting & Technical Director (Designate) Richard Garlick said: “Marco was part of a squad during the last three seasons that enjoyed success in the Barclays Premier League.

“He has probably not played as much as he would have liked.

“But he is an excellent professional and when called upon always gave 100 per cent.

“He leaves us with our best wishes for the future.”

Fortune became a popular figure with Albion fans during his first spell at the club, when he spent the second half of the 2008/09 top-flight campaign on loan from French side Nancy, scoring five goals in 17 top-flight starts.

He moved to Celtic in July 2009 before returning to the Baggies on a permanent deal after just one season.

In total, Fortune made 88 appearances, including 31 as a substitute, for the Baggies, scoring 14 goals.
