Trio give Clarke food for thought

Boss pleased with contribution of subs against City

STEVE Clarke admitted Albion’s trio of substitutes in tonight’s 3-2 defeat by Manchester City gave him food for thought heading into Saturday’s clash with Norwich (ko 3pm).

Victor Ancihebe got his name on the scoresheet for the first time for his new club and Matej Vydra turned play-maker for both of the Baggies’ goals.

Meanwhile, Gera got half-an-hour under his belt in addition to his ten-minute cameo at Newcastle on Saturday on his comeback from a ten-month injury lay-off.

“We used the later stages of the game to get Zoltan on the pitch,” said Clarke.

“Victor came on and did well and got his goal.

“He showed his qualities and why we brought him here.

“He’s got a good part to play for the team this season.

“Matej Vydra came on and looked bright and lively.

“It’s what you have to do when you’re pushing and waiting for your chance.

“You have to come into the games and it can only be ten or 15 minutes – but sometimes they are important.

“All my players are in my thoughts.

“I’ve got other players who didn’t play at all tonight and were not involved in the squad.

“Like I’ve said a number of times, we’ve got a good, strong squad and it’s my responsibility to make sure I pick the right team to get a win against Norwich on Saturday.”
