STAT PACK: Will Tigers get travel sick?

Facts and figures for Saturday's clash with the Tigers (ko 3pm)

ALBION begin life after Steve Clarke back on home soil hoping to end a run of four successive defeats against Steve Bruce's promoted side.

While the Tigers have been lauded for their impressive form upon returning to the top flight, only four points separate the sides, with Hull having only won one of their last six matches.

The fact that victory came against title-challengers Liverpool was certainly impressive and worthy of praise, but it is worth noting that it - along with three more of their five wins - came on home soil.

In fact, their only win on the road this season came at Newcastle back in September.

The point they obtained at Swansea in their last away game was the only other time they have avoided defeat on the road.

As a result, only Crystal Palace and Sunderland (three each) have picked up fewer points away from home in the Barclays Premier League this season (four).

So this weekend, with a new man in charge in the home dugout in Keith Downing, there is certainly reason to be optimistic for Baggies fans who might have found recent results hard to swallow.

Hull have mustered just 8.9 shots per game in away games this season - the second fewest in England’s top flight - while they have averaged a meagre 37.9 per cent possession on their travels - by some margin the lowest proportion in the league.

By comparison, Albion have attempted 13 shots per game on home soil and enjoyed a 49.2 per cent share of possession.

Moreover, the Baggies have scored ten goals in eight games at The Hawthorns, while Hull have netted just six in the same number on the road.

Three of those came in that aforementioned win at Newcastle, and so that game aside, their 'goals for' column reads three in seven matches.

They have also shipped 16 goals away from home, the third most in the Barclays Premier League, so there is certainly reason to believe Albion have a good chance of returning to winning ways this weekend.

Recent results between the sides do not give too much indication as to the result, but it is Albion who have the slight edge.

The last six meetings have seen three Baggies victories, two for Hull and a draw, which came in the most recent clash.

One consistent feature has been plenty of goals, with at least three scored in each of the sides' last four meetings.

With the attacking talent the Baggies have at their disposal they should have some joy when faced with the Tigers' defence.

It certainly will not be an easy game - Hull have proven themselves as worthy of a place in the top flight - but as the stats prove, Albion have a good chance of pulling off a victory.
