McAuley: We're gutted

Defender rues missed chances

GARETH McAuley insists his Albion team-mates are ‘bitterly disappointed’ following this afternoon's 2-0 defeat by Norwich at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies dominated possession and shots on target against the Canaries – but a goal in either half saw the visitors leave with all three points.

The result sees Albion slip to 15th in the Barclays Premier League.

And the Northern Ireland international says Steve Clarke’s side will work tirelessly to climb the table as soon as possible.

“I wouldn’t say we were unlucky,” said McAuley.

“We had plenty of chances and put plenty of balls into the box.

“Credit to Norwich, they’ve defended for their lives and come away with the points.

“We needed to do more to win the game and we haven’t done it.

“We’re bitterly disappointed.

“We need to start putting three points on the board.

“We’re in the bottom half of the table and we don’t want to be there.

“That’s the reality of the situation and we have to take that on the chin.

“We need to put in plenty of hard work on the training ground to change that.

“We have the players here to push on.

“We have to do more when we take to the field.”
