Shan calls on players to improve defensively

ALBION Under-18s were defeated 2-1 by Norwich in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League at the club’s training ground on Saturday.

The Baggies took an early lead when Alex Jones struck home after five minutes but a Rhys Browne brace secured all three points for the visitors.

And lead professional development coach James Shan believes his side must improve defensively if they are to enjoy a successful season.

“The manner in which we conceded the two goals was disappointing and annoying for our coaching staff,” said Shan.

“It’s not acceptable defending and we’re determined to put it right.

“We’re disappointed with the performance but we did create a couple of good chances and could have got more from the game.

“We’re in the business of player development and though we’ve got some talented players coming through it also important that the players combine to perform as a team.”
