Olsson backs Boaz

Myhill on red alert with Foster a doubt

JONAS Olsson has full faith in Boaz Myhill if he is called upon to fill Ben Foster's boots against Wigan this afternoon (ko 3pm).

The 6ft3in stopper, who celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday, could make his first Barclays Premier League appearance in almost 21 months if Baggies No.1, Foster, is unable to play due to a groin problem he struggled through Monday’s 2-0 victory over Southampton with.

Myhill, who has made only 12 appearances for the Baggies since joining on a Bosman in July 2010, spent last season on loan at Blues, helping them reach the Championship play-offs.

And Olsson insists the Barclays Premier League experience Myhill also gained during his time with Hull City means Albion will be in safe hands this weekend.

“For me, he’s a top goalkeeper,” said Olsson.

“I think Ben has been unbelievable for us so it’s not a matter that Boaz hasn’t played because he hasn’t performed well, it’s been that Ben has been so good it’s been difficult to move him.

“I’ve been working with Bo over the last couple of years and he’s a top man and a great goalkeeper, which he has shown at Birmingham and Hull before that.

“He’s a good pro and I’m sure he’ll be ready for it when he gets his chance.

“I think goalkeepers are very professional that way, most of them, Bo especially I think.

“He knows he’s No.2 but he shows up to every training session and does his best so he’s ready when he’s called upon.

“I’m sure he’ll do a good job.

“He’s experienced and he’s a Wales international, so he’s played at this level before.

“I enjoy playing in front of Ben but I’m sure we’ll enjoy playing in front of Boaz as well.”
