Interesting facts

This fixture sees Albion face Wigan for only the 18th time in all competitions. It is the Baggies' least played fixture of all the current top-flight teams.

Albion have won only two of their nine visits to Wigan.

The Baggies have a positive goal difference (+4) for the first time ever at this stage of a Barclays Premier League season.

Wigan’s 11 points from ten games is their best start to a Premier League campaign for three years.

Latics midfielder Ben Watson played six matches for the Baggies during a loan spell in the Baggies' 2009/10 Championship promotion season.

Albion first overcame Wigan in the league when Bobby Gould’s side recorded a 1-0 victory at Springfield Park in Old Division Three on Boxing Day 1991. That year the third tier of English football featured four other current Premier League sides (Stoke, Fulham, Reading and Swansea).

Wigan team news

Neil Swarbrick will referee Saturday’s game. The Lancashire official last oversaw the Baggies in their historic 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in April. Swarbrick has dished out 34 yellow and no red cards in ten games so far this term.
