Hegazi commits future to Albion

18 December 2017

The former Serie A man became known to the Baggies after impressive performances at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in which Egypt finished runners-up and Hegazi was named in the Team of the Tournament.

And the 6'5" centre-half is widely regarded as one of the lynchpins of his national team having so far gained 39 caps.

Identified as a top prospect at 20 years of age, Ahmed was signed by Fiorentina only for injuries to hamper his progress.

He returned to Egypt and has spent the last two seasons with one of his nation's top clubs Al Ahly, winning two league titles.

After scoring on his Premier League debut against Bournemouth in August, Ahmed became an instant fan favourite at The Hawthorns. And his commanding displays in central defence during the first half of the season earned him a permanent contract extension until 2022.
