ALBION legend and fans' favourite Darren Moore has enjoyed a proud and established career at The Hawthorns as both a player and now first-team coach.

Birmingham-born Moore played 116 matches for the Baggies, twice winning promotion in 2002 and 2004 before being part of the club's memorable Great Escape in 2004/05.

He started his professional playing career at Torquay United before enjoying spells at Doncaster Rovers, Bradford City and Portsmouth.

'Mooro', as friendly and much-loved off the pitch as he was powerful and imposing on it, first arrived at The Hawthorns in September 2001, making his debut against Watford.

Centre-back Moore was a key member of the Baggies side who won promotion to the Premier League in his first season - scoring the opening goal in the crucial 2-0 win over Crystal Palace to end the club's 16-year wait for a top-flight return.

Relegation followed but he helped Albion secure an immediate return to the top flight in 2003/04 before playing his part in the iconic story of final-day Premier League survival a year later.

Darren departed The Hawthorns in 2006 for Derby County and went on to play for Barnsley and Burton Albion, also earning international recognition with Jamaica.

Mooro hung up his boots in 2012 and rejoined Albion as part of the club's Academy coaching staff.

He linked up with former Baggies team-mate Michael Appleton as Blackburn Rovers first-team coach in January 2013 before returning to his role at Albion in August 2014.

Having worked closely with the club's Under-18 and Under-23 sides, Mooro became more involved in Albion's first-team set-up as he established himself as a key member of the backroom staff, also acting as loan manager for the club's aspiring youngsters.

The hugely popular figure was promoted to first-team coach in December 2017.

And following the departure of Head Coach Alan Pardew in April 2018, Moore was placed in charge of first-team affairs until further notice.
