It was 27 years ago today that Ossie Ardiles’ Baggies were promoted to Division One in front of a huge Albion following at Wembley.
After overcoming Swansea in a dramatic two-legged semi-final Albion took on Port Vale in a one-off, winner-takes-all tie at the famous old stadium.
Goals from Andy Hunt, Nicky Reid and Kevin Donovan earned the Baggies a place back in the second tier of English football, after a two-year spell in the third.
Incredibly, 42,300 of the 53,471 in attendance had travelled from the Black Country, provoking memorable scenes at the full-time whistle.
