Slaven Bilić admits the goals Albion conceded in South Wales were "avoidable" and says it’s time for his side to get back to basics.
The Baggies remain in the Sky Bet Championship’s top two despite their 2-1 defeat - just their second on the road this season - at the Cardiff City Stadium.
But the Albion boss has called on his players to handle defensive situations in a much better manner.
He said: “We can’t defend like this. We knew it was going to be a difficult game, they are very straightforward, they are direct.
“They have those throw-ins but we can’t concede from the throw that easy.
“We have to cope with the situations that happen on the pitch and we just didn’t.
“It wasn’t good. It’s now seven games without a win. It’s a lot.
“We have to start doing those basics things much better.
“We have to give them credit and we expected a tough game but the goals were definitely avoidable.”
