Stoke PL2 v Albion PL2 match report

Albion’s PL2 side fought back from two goals down to draw against Stoke City on a rainy night at Leek Town’s Harrison Park.

The hosts opened the scoring just after the ten-minute mark when Mame Diouf hit a low strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The Potters doubled their lead through a nicely worked free-kick, as Cameron McJannet headed into the top corner from close range.

But Albion refused to lie down. Nick Clayton-Phillips raced down the wing and whipped in a low cross, which eventually landed at the feet of Jamie Soule, who neatly fired into the back of the net.

The Baggies’ second goal would come on the counter attack as Soule used his pace to break the hosts’ backline and curl a low effort, which Adam Davies in the Stoke goal could only parry into the path of Chris Willock, who tapped home with ease.

In the second half, Albion nearly took the lead through Clayton-Phillips only to see his shot crash against the post.

Ash Kigbu fired an effort from distance against the crossbar for the hosts, and Albion needed an impressive Jack Fitzwater goal-line clearance to keep the scores level.

With the game drawing to a close both teams had chances to win the game, but neither side could find the all-important goal.

ALBION: Trialist, Meredith, Fitzwater, Martinez, Dyce (Harmon 57); Harper, Wilding (Solanke 80); Clayton-Phillips, Azaz, Willock; Soule.
