Moore positive over new Harper deal

Darren Moore has offered a positive update on contract discussions with midfielder Rekeem Harper.

The 18-year-old Academy graduate has impressed having started Albion's last three matches, picking up the man of the match award in Monday's 2-0 Sky Bet Championship victory at Bolton Wanderers.

Harper is out of contact this summer and discussions have been taking place over a new deal, with head coach Moore hopeful of coming to an agreement soon.

"We’re nearly ready to re-sign Rekeem Harper," he said.

"He’s our player, he belongs to us, he's local, he’s developed through our Academy. As a head coach, along with my staff, we know Rekeem extremely well because we’ve worked with him since he's been Under-12.

"It’s a proud moment, it's a proud moment for me, the coaching staff, the Academy and the football club when you see two young players like Sam (Field) and Rekeem side by side (at Bolton) along with an experienced Gareth Barry.

"The Academy would have sent an email around (the club) to say the hard work pays off.

"Rekeem is a player we want to stay. We’re in the final parts of him re-signing which will be good news for everybody."

Moore has hailed the progress made by Rekeem and praised the positive performances which have earned him plenty of plaudits.

And he also believes there's plenty more to come from the highly-regarded teenager.

"Rekeem has just got to continue getting his head down, there's lots of parts of his game that he's still developing and learning," he added.

"But there's some wonderful parts of his game that he's shown, we've all seen that.

"He excites the fans, he's young, energetic, fresh, he's enjoying his game, fearless - all the components of a really good player.

"He'll be developing along the way."
