Townsend tips squad to go on winning run

Conor Townsend says Albion have the strength-in-depth required for the frantic Sky Bet Championship schedule lying in wait.

Saturday’s trip to Stoke City is the first of five fixtures in 15 days - beginning an important run of games which includes clashes with Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, QPR and Sheffield United.

And the Baggies left-back believes the options at Darren Moore’s disposal can help the club climb to an automatic-promotion place during the busy period.

"We're still in touching distance," said Townsend.

"The result on Saturday wasn't what we wanted but we are still in touching distance and there's still three months to go. I think this month will be massive for us.

"We need to pick up points, especially against teams in and around us and I have got every confidence - as everyone in the squad has - that we can go on a run. The squad is more than capable of doing it and that is what we're looking to do.

"I'm just trying to do as well as I can when I'm given an opportunity and be ready if I'm called upon.”

Townsend reserved special praise for fellow left-back Kieran Gibbs, adding: "I think Gibbo has been brilliant all season and that's credit to him.

“I've got to just try and push him as much as I can and if I am called upon try and step in and fill into his shoes as best as I can.”
