Austin on ‘great’ Preston triumph

Charlie Austin believes the character in this Albion team saw them battle through to the very end and claim another important Sky Bet Championship win at Deepdale on Monday night.

The Baggies made it five straight league triumphs with the 1-0 victory in Lancashire courtesy of the striker’s late penalty after Kyle Edwards was brought down by Declan Rudd.

And Austin praised the whole squad for their never say die attitude following his third goal in as many games.

“It’s great to get three points and great to score another late winner,” he said.

“You’ve got to remember that they hadn't been beaten at home, seven wins and two draws. It’s a tough place to come.

“It’s massive and shows great signs. I think if you look at the character that we’ve got from the youngsters in the team, Nathan and Kyle, to the senior ones - we’ve got it everywhere.

“I think we’re going to go well this year. But you can feel it around the training ground and around the stadium, the atmosphere is great.

“Long may that continue, we’ve got a tough run of games coming up. As everybody knows, at Christmas time there are a lot of games.

“We’ll just keep ticking them off and that’s all we can do.”
