Townsend rues lack of luck in front of goal

Conor Townsend admitted it “just wasn’t to be” in front of goal as Albion were held to a goalless draw by battling Reading.

Jimmy Shan's men created a number of chances in the second half at the Madejski Stadium but they were unable to find a way past the Royals and Emi Martinez.

Rekeem Harper and Jay Rodriguez both hit the woodwork while Dwight Gayle saw a late effort cleared off the line, and Townsend believes the Baggies would’ve secured three points in Berkshire on another day.

He said: “We created a lot of chances.

“On another day, maybe two or three go in and we win the game.

“Jay had a couple of good strikes from range and Rak has seen one come back off the bar.

“It just wasn’t to be our day in front of goal.

“It was good to see us keep creating chances and not settling for the 0-0 draw.”

Conor added: “We have been scoring goals, so if we can keep clean sheets at the other end then, with the players we have, it gives us a good chance in any game against any team.

“It’s nice to get a clean sheet going into the Play-Offs and it certainly gives us a bit of confidence.”
