Albion began the defence of the League Cup by smashing Aston Villa at The Hawthorns in the second-round tie.
The 6-1 scoreline matched Albion’s competition record achieved against Coventry City the previous season, and featured a hat-trick from Bobby Hope, two from Doug Fraser and another goal from Clive Clark in front of a crowd of 25,039.
