J-Rod excited by Gayle partnership

JAY Rodriguez hopes to strengthen his already-promising relationship with strike partner Dwight Gayle as the season progresses.

The duo have netted seven goals in just five games together, making Albion the Sky Bet Championship’s top scorers with 15.

And Jay believes he and Gayle will benefit further as Darren Moore’s preferred style of play continues to bear fruit.

“The football we’re playing has been really good,” said Rodriguez.

“We’re passing it quickly and moving it around the back and the aim at the end of it is to get a chance, which we are doing. We’re creating a lot of chances, and scoring a lot of goals.

“I think it’s credit to the lads and to the staff that have put the system in place. We’re still working hard on it and we’re still trying to improve on it and I think it’s the right way to go.

“It’s really good to play with Dwight. He’s come in and he’s a great lad off the field. He’s fit in perfectly.

“The stuff he does on the field; he’s quick, he’s sharp, he works hard. We’ve seen how good his finishing is.

“The first goal especially against Stoke was different level. It was a key moment for us to score and he kept a cool head. It’s things like that that you buzz off it.

“It’s easy as well because he’s such a good guy.

“We talk a lot and we’re trying to work out little things we can do when we’re up against different types of defenders, and we’ll continue to do that.

“We’ll continue to do that and hopefully our partnership grows.”
