Davies delighted with players’ attitude

ALBION’s new First Team Fitness Coach Nick Davies says the players’ attitude towards the maiden week of pre-season training has been “nothing short of outstanding”.

The squad have completed a series of high-intensity sessions, both morning and evening, as preparation for the Sky Bet Championship campaign heats up in Portugal.

And Davies, who joins the Baggies with over 15 years’ experience of fitness and conditioning in football, has been impressed with the effort and application of the players.

“We’ve done double sessions out here in Portugal,” he said.

“The first in the morning and the second in the evening, with a mix of conditioning and football work.

“Both of those areas have been working in tandem. A successful pre-season programme doesn’t work in isolation, it has to be a coming together of all the different aspects.

“We have a very skilled backroom staff who have put together a thoroughly planned pre-season schedule and I think the players are really benefitting from that.

“They have acknowledged the thought process that has gone on behind the planning.

“I’m one week in to my role and I can’t speak highly enough of the staff and the players.

“Their attitude and application towards the work has been nothing short of outstanding.

“As a staff we have been delighted with the fitness levels that they have come back to us with.

“That’s testament to the off-season schedules which they would have adhered to. That’s allowed us to put on high-quality training sessions which have been specific to their needs.

“That helps to engage the player and it also means they get more enjoyment out of it.”
