Strong Baggies squad depart for Dons

ALBION will deploy their strongest squad of the pre-season schedule so far when they tackle Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen at Pittodrie tonight.

The Baggies has been getting into their stride with public outings at Barnet and Swindon Town - which both resulted in victories - and some behind-closed-doors action against league opposition.

A series of niggling injuries have interrupted some of the players' progress to full fitness and that does mean new ‘keeper Sam Johnstone, defender Allan Nyom and striker Salomon Rondon will not be risked at Pittodrie.

But Head Coach Darren Moore has the rest of his senior group now back in the fold, which means Albion fans making the long trip north will get their first view of new recruits, defender Kyle Bartley and 'keeper Jonathan Bond.

Darren says: “We face a step up tonight because Aberdeen will be further ahead with their fitness schedule as they are getting ready for next week’s Europa League start against Burnley.

“We’ve got some game time into most of the players although we could do without these niggles which are holding back one or two of the lads. But there is no point taking chances at this stage of our preparation.

“It will be hard work tonight. Aberdeen will be at full throttle and that’s just what we need at this stage of our preparations.”
